a Guide to Kookaburra Cricket Bats
The bird is back. Check out the new Kahuna, Ghost, Aura, Stealth, Rapid, and Nickel bats from Kookaburra for 2025.
Offering a wide range of bat profiles with as many as six main lines to choose from, Kookaburra really do cater for every type of cricketer. But which bat’s right for you? Here were run through each shape one by one to help you make an informed decision.
KAHUNA
Grades and variations: Pro, Grade 2, Grade 4, Grade 6, Lite, Big Kahuna
Middle: Mid-blade
Weight Range (SH): Kahuna 2lb 8oz – 2lb 10oz; Kahuna Lite 2lb 6oz – 2lb 8 1/2oz; Big Kahuna 2lb 12oz – 3lb
Kookaburra’s most famous modern bat is well known for good reason. It’s a beautifully balanced bat that blends power and manoeuvrability, ideal for dynamic strokemakers such as headline endorsee Jos Buttler and original collaborator Ricky Ponting. The new “Spira” grip looks particularly nice on the Kahuna, with the subtle pattern incorporated into the stickers for a streamlined aesthetic. If you’re hungry for extra power, seek out the Big Kahuna edition, which ups the profile measurements across the board.
GHOST
Grades and variations: Pro, Grade 1, Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 6
Middle: Low
Weight Range (SH): 2lb 8 1/2oz – 2lb 10 1/2oz
Crafted for stylish, decisive strokeplay, the latest Ghost features an increased bow, thicker edges, and a slightly lower sweetspot. It’s the kind of bat that rewards good technique, as displayed by the likes of Marnus Labuschagne when he’s lasering another pin-point drive through the covers. Understated, minimalist graphics let your play do the talking, giving a clean look to every shot as you casually notch another fifty. First introduced in 2015, it remains a very popular bat at all levels of the game.
AURA
Grades and variations: Pro, Grade 2, Grade 4, Grade 6
Middle: Mid-low
Weight Range (SH): 2lb 8oz – 2lb 10oz
We made a big deal of the Aura when it released back in 2023, and rightly so. It’s designed to provide comparable power to Kookaburra’s heftier bats while being easier to handle. It works, too. Remember Nat Sciver-Brunt’s mammoth hits at The Hundred? That was the Aura. This year’s edition adds extra flair with vibrant colours used for the stickers and grip. If you’re a female player, a junior player, or a male player who just prefers a lighter bat, give the Aura a go – you won’t be disappointed.
STEALTH
Grades and variations: Pro, Grade 1, Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 6, Max
Middle: Low
Weight Range (SH): Stealth 2lb 9oz – 2lb 12oz; Stealth Max 2lb 12oz – 3lb
Very much a modern player’s bat, the Stealth is all about power. That means massive edges, a high spine, and the one-inch shorter blade, one-inch longer handle combo favoured by many pro T20 specialists. The setup helps you generate increased swing speed for big hits, adding vital extra distance to ensure you clear the field. As a result, it’s a particularly popular bat at the amateur level too – it’s a weapon in anyone’s hands. Even with its all-black cosmetics, there’s no chance you’re going under the radar wielding the Stealth.
RAPID
Grades and variations: Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 6, Ultralite
Middle: Mid-blade
Weight Range (SH): Rapid 2lb 6oz – 2lb 8oz; Rapid Ultralite 2lb 4oz – 2lb 6oz
As its name suggests, fast runs are the order of the day with the Rapid. It’s a lightweight bat designed for manoeuvrability, making it perfect for players who like to work the ball around the field with a variety of shots. It’s lighter than the Aura and focuses more on pickup than inherent power, yet still packs a punch, with a big swell focusing the willow in the striking area. That makes it ideal for younger players, male and female, helping them concentrate on their technique to play clean, controlled shots.
NICKEL
Grades and variations: Pro, Grade 2, Grade 4, Grade 6
Middle: Low
Weight Range (SH): 2lb 8oz – 2lb 10oz
The Nickel returns with a new shape for 2025, featuring a full profile with an elongated swell and a lower middle tailored for today’s game. The willow’s spread across the hitting area, offering more control over your shots and lessening the chance of mishits, while significant tapering towards the toe aids the pickup, making this big bat feel much lighter in the hands. Looks-wise, the Nickel lives up to its name with eye-catching chrome stickers. One of the classiest bats of the new season, no doubt.
We offer a large selection of adult and junior sizes, and if you’re after a particularly heavy or particularly light bat, check out the Big Kahuna, Stealth Max, Kahuna Lite, and Rapid Ultralite variations.
