Getting to Know all About Gunn & Moore Cricket Bats
Blending over 130 years of expertise with a love of the game of cricket.
Gunn & Moore are one of the most well-respected bands in cricket and they have been at the forefront of bat design since 1885. Their bats are still all hand made in their state-of-the-art facility in Nottingham.
William Gunn partnered with local businessman Thomas Moore to form GM. Known for his scientific approach to batting, Gunn applied the same philosophy to bat making, recruiting skilful crafters to create his vision of the perfect cricket bat.
Fast forward well over a century and GM still apply those theories and ideas today. While they use the highly skilled experts to finish every cricket bat the initial shaping is done by a specifically configured machine. Their custom engineered machine uses CAD technology to shape the set bat profiles, using five-axis cutters that produce them to absolute precision.
Gunn & Moore have been endorsed by many famous players over the years including Marcus Trescothick, Graeme Smith, Ross Taylor and Steve Waugh. Featuring iconic bat profiles like the Hero, Maxi & Maestro.
Their current crop of players include Ben Stokes who famously used the Gunn & Moore Diamond to devastating effect on the way to the World Cup trophy in 2019 and his historic innings at Headingley during the Ashes. They also include James Vince, Amy Jones and Aiden Markram.
Their current range includes the latest iteration of the Diamond, England Test captain Ben Stokes signature bat. The stickers take inspiration from Ben’s intricate body art and depict a lion that Is synonymous with Ben’s character as a player and person.
The Aion is all new for 2024 which features a long low middle and large edges. Even though it has a large profile it is incredibly well balanced and picks up very well. It is designed for players who like to dominate off the front foot.
The Mana is back for 2024 featuring blue stickers with a pop of red. A shorter blade and higher middle make for an incredibly dynamic and manoeuvrable bat. It’s lightweight feel allows players to get their hands quickly through the ball and react to anything that it thrown at them with ease.
The Hypa was new for 2023 but stays in the range for this year. It’s incredibly popular profile due to the fullness of the blade and it’s imposing look. Featuring large edges and a huge middle mean that players can dominate bowlers with devastating power and reach the boundary with minimal effort.
