      Hoka Rocket X 2

The Hoka Unisex Rocket X 2 in Lettuce/Solar Flare has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, including a new foam, new upper and completely re-designed geometries for a premium, go to road racing shoe.

Featuring a brand new, pinnacle technology midsole foam combined with a 1mm spoon-like carbon plate, the Rocket X 2 delivers propulsion, and efficiency in bucket loads, for record times and amplified speed. An exaggerated meta-rocker, the upturn of the underfoot, encourages propulsive use of the entire gait cycle further enhancing your stride, while a bold new geometric construction adds to the feeling of speed. The breathable engineered upper is assisted by an internal chassis to give you a foot hugging fit with midfoot lockdown.

      HOKA Rocket X

A carbon-plated racing flat, the Rocket X is HOKA’s lightest racing shoe and is designed for explosive performance off the start line. Whether you’re battling elite athletes or competing against yourself, expect an insanely responsive feel over short to middle distances.

      Carbon Plate

Carbon plates have well-researched benefits and a seemingly endless list of race wins and world records.

They create the firmer feel that fast racers are looking for and help to guide the foot through your stride, providing a touch of extra support. They can also help create a rocker feel, with the stiffness allowing the shoe to pivot – as the toe goes down, the heel must come up, easing you into your next stride.

Although stiff, they do flex, providing an energised pop of forward momentum as the plate fights to retain its shape.

Each brand, and almost every shoe, uses a plate differently. Different shapes, thicknesses, and designs are used to prioritise a different aspect of performance. Some aim exclusively to guide the stride, while others focus solely on propulsion.

      Extra Cushioning

Featuring extra-deep stacks of midsole foam, extra-cushioned shoes offer improved impact absorption, comfort, and even performance. With modern foams providing energy return through your stride, the more foam under your foot, the bigger the spring forward. The trade-off of extra foam is additional weight and reduced ground feel. It can also be expensive to create and stabilise so much foam.

      Super comfortable

I was a pacer for the Vermont City Marathon this weekend, and Hoka let me demo a pair of these shoes during the race. They were incredibly comfortable and light. I was only sad that I had to give them back, but I am buying myself a pair! I am a woman and was doubtful about the fit of these since they are not women specific. I usually wear a 7.5 and the shoe that said it fit a women's 7.5 did in fact fit me just right, so if you are worried about the sizing, that is my experience with it. I had previously run in the original Carbon X, and they gave me a hot spot on my heel and beat up my toes a little. With these I had no hot spots and my toes were fine.

Perfect cushioning and ability to go fast!

I've run about 60-70 miles in these now and love the cushioning and the ability to go fast or the softness to enjoy running a a decent pace to just log miles. They do fit much tighter than any Hoka I've run in and I have 30 plus pairs of Hokas. I did have a problem with the top of the heal cup cutting into my Achilles Tendon. That still hasn't broken in and may be a defect of the left shoe. The right one is perfect. I changed to 3/4 socks which help prevent it now. These are still my favorite shoes for races or long distance. Would be 5 stars if not for this one issue. They are tight but the cushioning is the best I've ever run in.

      This shoe runs for you!

I recently purchased this shoe for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, and let me tell you, I am blown away by how comfortable and efficient this has made my running. The lightweight, breathable upper feels like its not even there. The rocker design, in combination with the carbon plate, spring-loads my stride and makes every step energy efficient. The plush midsole stays comfortable and soft throughout my entire run. I ran an eight mile trial run and a fifteen mile long run to break them in and I am thoroughly impressed by how little fatigued my feet and my legs feel. I think I have found my new race-day shoe for a while!

So close, but one thing needs to be fixed

As a Hoka wearer, I was excited to see the Rocket X2 finally delivered a "super shoe" to contend with the other brands. However, watching the reviews and seeing them in-person the first time, I thought those long rounded bulges inside the upper near the heal would be a problem. I assume they are there to help hold the foot in place, especially with the unsupported heal structure. Sure enough, they give me blisters so I have to put on band-aides or tape before running in them. Otherwise, I love them. Great roll, comfortable, fit well, and fast. You just need to fix that heal situation and they'll definitely be five stars.

      The good and the bad

This shoe is impossible to put on - even with a shoe horn. Instead of a heel counter it has a filmsy piece of material. It would have been nice to have been given a loop to pull on. The shoelaces are too short to knot properly and of course, they come undone. That said the shoe is really really fast and makes you feel like you are being propelled forward with each step. It's just what you want in a racer. For that reason I am keeping the shoe and not sending it back. Still, I am sad that my favorite shoe - another Rocket - with a very low heel to floor drop was discontinued. I wish Hoka would bring it back.

These are great for a faster runner who want less cushion.

I like them for short runs or short races. I am an avid distance runner so they aren't cushioned enough for my slower pace but still were comfy, stable, and roomy. I went up a size in them and glad I did. They run a bit narrow and small. I did great in my short races and got a new PR. They did well on mileage up to 5/7 miles but I didn't go any further because I know what I need and these are more for shorter runs for me. I may consider a half but that's as far as I think I can go but prefer to use them in my 5k or 10ks instead. Well done but just not for a long distance for me but a great shoe.

Very responsive, comfortable carbon plated shoe

I have done a 5 and 10mile run in the Rocket X2. I have worn a handful of other carbon plated shoes (multiple Nike's, New Balance, Saucony). What I like: super responsive, felt bouncy just walking in them. I have a normal width foot and felt I had more room than other super shoes I've run in. I am a mid-foot striker and felt the Rocket X2 were best during a faster, tempo run. Definitely a racer, not something I would wear for longer, slower runs. Don't like so much: Tread is not very good off pavement. Flat, hardback dirt surface had me slipping a little when I released so these are pavement only for me. The sweet spot for the plate was a little towards my toes for my liking but not a deal breaker.

First off I love the look of the shoe. I was looking for some high-performance running shoes, and I searched new balance as well as haka, as well as Nike in the seem to be the most stylish shoe with the most comfort and bounce that I was searching for. I love the way they are light on my feet and not heavy at all as well as the bounce I have a bad knee and these shoes give me no knee pain while running. The price is a little expensive but I feel like it's an investment in my health since they feel so good on my feet and my knees feel great as well. I do have narrow feet so the shoe works well for me. I have seen other reviews that if you have a wide feet the fill is different and my case the shoe feels great.
