Founded by William J. Riley in 1906, New Balance started small, producing highly flexible, three-point arch supports for those that suffered discomfort wearing shoes, all inspired by the daily balancing acts performed by Williams’ own backyard chickens as they nimbly navigated the coop. Rolling on to 1972, under new owner Jim Davis, New Balance foresaw a shift in the market. Bought these for my son for his birthday. They were very nice... However, the sizing is WAY off. He usually wears a size 12-12.5 shoe. Because they didn't have this style of shoe in a 12.5, I opted for the 12. The 12 was EXTREMELY small, more like a 10.5. My son who is a 10.5 shoe could fit in them, and I wear a women's size 11 and they nearly fit me.... and yes, I bought a men's 12, not a women's 12. So, obviously I sent them back. I returned them about a month ago and have yet to receive a refund. I would love to purchase these again because they are nice, but now I'm very skeptical of the sizing?

I usually wear women's size 8 and ordered these in a men's 6.5 in the white/white colourway. Would have grabbed womens, but they're never in stock or gone before you know it! Fit is good, albeit a little tiny bit big. Might have gotten away with a men's 6, but women's 7.5 is usually way too tight. I'm almost always a EUR39. Didn't want to chance sizing down. So far so good, but the only thing annoying is the exposed midsole foam. Dirty in 5 minutes of wear. Are they the most comfy shoes I own? No, that title goes to my 990v5's, but these 550s are a totally different look. Good shoes overall.

I love this sneaker the design is a classic silhouette that isn't too funky or jazzy or too In your face or at all pretentious it's just a great looking shoe that already has a massive following in the sneakers community New Balance saw an opportunity to bring th 550 back from the vaults of time with a tweak here and there and struck gold.........keep up the good work guys keep your concept design and R+D team's hard at work bringing us more fresh new looks for our feet the uxc range is excellent as well as the 550.Gotta love em. P.S. Please bring the 550's in Citrus and Carolina Blue to the UK,I know its dropping tomorrow or the 1st in the U.S. but don't forget us üò¢. Cheers and Thank-You For the.550

First of all, the shoe looks great. One of my favorite designs. However, there are some flaws (IN MY EXPERIENCE).
1. The insole it comes with is very thin and not very comfortable.
2. The area where the leather bends at the base of the big toe can dig into your foot, which is slightly painful. This goes away with some wear, however.
3. The shoe seems to run a few milimeters longer at the end of the toebox compared with other NB shoes of the same size (25.5 cm foot length). Not a big deal at all and it could be that my foot is between half-sizes.

Great aesthetic. Pretty comfortable right out of the box. They fit true to size but there is a bit of heel slippage if you lace them loosely and they do run a bit narrow in the body. Something to consider if you have a wider foot. The leather is subpar. The construction on these is very solid, especially the outsole. Definitely seems like you can beat these up for a while and they'll last. They rival the AF1 in the chunky department, these are heavy boys. Glad they brought this instantly iconic silhouette back.

The shoe fits very narrow, if you have wide feet or anything slightly wider than average they are very narrow. The from what I read online you should go down half a size due to the length of the shoe, most definitely not the case here. I would recommend going true to size instead of following other online resources if you have wide or slightly wider feet like me. Also the QC on the pair I received was awful, had glue near the toe box showing and the sock liner was stained. Returned and refunded.

They have a great aesthetic, but compared to other NB shoes in the same size (M13), they are too narrow and too long (they do stretch out after some wear, and heel popping grows less intense). While they are not really ""TTS,"" I would advise buying your normal NB size because sizing down will crush your foot, and sizing up will cause excessive heel rubbing/popping. These issues may still be prevalent with your regular size, but it's tolerable, and they will dissipate with slight wear.

I do agree with people about the sizing. I am a true size 6 and they fit fine with half a size small so getting a size 4 instead of 4.5 men. I think they would have fit fine if I did get them in a size 4.5 but I can still wear my Nike socks and they don't feel super snug where unbearable. I am also a size 4 in Nike Air Force ones but again those sizes are all over the place. If you get them in your size they'll be fine if you get a half size you'll be fine too!
