      New Balance

Founded by William J. Riley in 1906, New Balance started small, producing highly flexible, three-point arch supports for those that suffered discomfort wearing shoes, all inspired by the daily balancing acts performed by Williams’ own backyard chickens as they nimbly navigated the coop. Chasing supportive, innovative comfort from the moment it was born over a century ago, New Balance would become a sporting shoe manufacturer of import among both athletes and basketballers, loved for its specialist footwear.

Rolling on to 1972, under new owner Jim Davis, New Balance foresaw a shift in the market. Hoping to ride the wave of casual style and streetwear, they began a push for leisure time products and comfy, all-day pieces that would eventually be sought-after from coast to coast and beyond, all renowned for their quality and comfort. From retro-inspired icons such as the 327 and 420 to the newer Fresh Foam cushioning technology pieces of today, New Balance has never stopped developing and has a deep collection of classic leather and suede silhouettes that will always look and feel superb.

      574

Nail the fundamentals and the success story writes itself. In the 80s, New Balance had a few premium performance runners making their way across the market, and buoyed by their success, designed a hybrid shoe for the expanding lifestyle audience. They borrowed from the 575 and 576, pulling out all the best bits and producing something that was more than the sum of its parts. There was no big advertising campaign, no fanfare, but this shoe hit the sweet spot in a way not many had done before, offering supreme ENCAP comfort and traction to its rapidly expanding audience of enthusiasts. Standing the test of time like few others, it was over 15 years into its life before any re-designs were even considered, and the 574 is one of, if not the most iconic of NB’s shoes. If you’re looking to have a bit of NB history on your feet, you’ll find all manner of modernised silhouettes and new colourways to achieve your own comfy daily style.

      Great but inconsistent sizing

Absolutely love this shoe but only when I get a good pair. The sizing on this shoe is all over the place. Ordered in three diff colors, all size 8.5 and only non of them fit the same size as my other two original pairs. Black was too small and grey was too large...I mean, significantly enough that I could just not keep them. Super disappointing. I don't have time in my life to order a million pairs and return....New Balance needs to get it together with consistent sizing as I had the same issue with my two kids shoes I ordered as well. We will be loyal only if we can get shoes that fit! Also, this shoe insole needs some arch support please.

      Great looks, good fit

Bought a pair in grey & white and I would say the website pictures depict the color accurately. Nice colors especially for fall/winter. Comfortable to wear and decent traction in dry-damp conditions. I did have to play around with sizes to find the best fit (I'm a women's 7.5 with a wider toe box, mild bunions, and slightly narrow heels), and ended up going with the women's 7.5 wide. I tried out the equivalent men's sizes (e.g., 1.5 sizes down) as well as half a size up in the regular women's width and they all had a slightly different length/width, so anyone else with tricky feet to size should be able to find something that fits well too!

      Sizing wonky

I have a few pairs of New Balance (all size 5.5) and love the way they grip/support my feet. I was looking for a more casual-style walking shoe and was excited to try these. I ordered my normal size (5.5) and was bummed that my toe was rubbing against the front of the shoe. I returned and went up to size 6. To my dissapointment, my heel lifted out of the back of the shoe when I walked. After 100 test laps around my house, I am confident that this is a sizing issue and not just a style that I'm just not used to with New Balance sneakers. The look is great, however I will sadly be returning as I can't find a size that fits my foot properly.

These are my first pair of New Balance trainers I was a little anxious at first as they came up small and I had to return them for the next size up. However, the whole returns process was professional and easy with the label provided. When the replacements came I was converted. The beige and white colour way looks so nice with all kinds of outfits and flatters my feet making them look petite. Best of all they are super comfortable with no rubbing so perfect for shopping days. Nice and summery too. Even if the weather isn’t! Not the cheapest but you certainly get what you pay for. Recommended - just get a UK size bigger than normal.

The most comfortable sneakers from the day 1!

In fact, this is my very first New Balance shoes. I wear sneakers everyday, and usually those are other famous brands because they have more city-like designs, but this time, I decided to give New Balance a try since so many people praise NB. I found the color that I really like, and when I put them on for the first time, I was shocked! They are so soft, light, and comfortable. Since then, I wear almost everyday. The shoes have wider toe space which makes it very comfortable. The size is a bit on the smaller side, so I'm glad I picked one size bigger than my usual. I know I will keep buying this same pair over and over for the rest of my life! Thank you!

I wanted a pair of comfortable, stylish, retro tennis shoes that were a neutral color for traveling. These fit the bill! I will say they are on the large size. I normally wear a 8 in New Balance walking shoes and those were too big so I had to get a size 7.5. These might be a bit roomy too but I'd rather have a roomier shoe so I can wear thicker socks when needed. Also, one can always put in an insole to make the fit tighter. They keep my feet comfortable while looking stylish. I LOVE the gray color, looks great with almost everything! Size down, I should have listened to other reviewers or gotten 2 pairs at one time.

      I was a skeptic

For years I had worn two other brands of athletic shoes. My husband always wore New Balance and swore they were the best. However our feet are shaped totally different - he is flat footed and I have a high arch so it didn’t make sense to me that we could wear the same shoe. Recently I purchased two pair of New Balance 574. Because I have a high arch I use Power Steps arch supports in the shoes. They are so comfortable! I have had two total hip replacements and as I result I was walking out of kilter. The New Balance shoes actually correct the way I walk. Also I really like the fact that they are roomy in the toe area. I am so happy that I tried them finally.

Needed a back-up shoe for an upcoming overseas trip, something neutral that didn't scream tennis shoe, and so far, pre-trip, I'm very pleased with the 574 Core. I usually wear a 7.5 but ordered up to an 8, based on other reviews. With my medium-weight, cushioned quarter socks, sizing up was a good decision. I have high arches, and the support feels adequate enough. Love the roomy toe box and grippy sole. Shoe feels sturdy but not heavy. Honestly, my only "complaint" to date is that I wish the white part of the sole and the taupe part were reversed, so the white wasn't so close to the bottom of the shoe. It's already showing a lot of dirt after just a handful of wears.
