They have also made changes to make it a touch more stable, so let’s see if it still has the spirit and sense of fun, we associate with the Novablast.

Background
Thanks to its bold styling, with strong upper designs, and the unique shape of the midsole, the Novablast has always stood out, and its famously bouncy ride has made it a favourite since its first iteration.
Part of the ASICS Run Fast range, it focuses on giving a springy, fun feel underfoot, that is perfect for short to middle distance runs.
The trampoline inspired foot bed is what sets it apart from other running shoes. Not content with using a responsive foam, ASICS have managed to form the outsole into a shape that enhances its natural bounce, for even more energy return, propelling you forward into each new stride.
Closer Look
Although the side walls of the midsole have an updated look, it maintains its bold styling, enhanced by strong colours that contrast with the black upper. Here at Pro:Direct look out also for the Frosted Rose/Deep Mars women’s colour for an alternative look.
Starting with the top of the shoe, the upper is now 75% recycled, it uses an engineered jacquard mesh construction to deliver excellent airflow, while also providing a soft feel, and stylish finish. Lightweight, it features a gusseted tongue to improve midfoot fit, and reduce tongue sliding.
The midsole foam has upgraded from FF Blast to FF blast+. What does that mean? The headline is that FFBlast+ has the same responsive feel, while managing to keep to a strict diet! At 19% lighter than its sibling, the introduction of FF Blast+ has helped make the men’s version of the Novablast 3 over 20 grams lighter than the previous version. That might only be the equivalent of three Bic pens (or 20 jelly babies) per shoe, but after enough steps, every gain seems essential.
Despite the weight reduction, the Novablast 3 has a higher stack height than the previous version, standing at 31mm maximum for the men, and 30mm for the women’s, it isn’t quite at the legal race maximum, but definitely in the category of highly cushioned.
Some tweaks and changes have been made to the midsole geometry to accommodate the new foam and higher stack heights, but the trampoline effect outsole is still there, offering more spring than ever thanks to the extra energy you gain from having more foam underfoot.
To provide a more stable experience, ASICS have given it a wider outsole base net, and created a heel stabiliser. Offering improved support, together they create a balanced landing that propels your foot forwards.
Conclusion
Loved by most, the Novablast 2 was occasionally reviewed as being less stable than desired, but always fast. This new version addresses the stability issue, in a lighter, bouncier shoe that has the potential to make each run feel faster and more fun.
So if you are looking for an enjoyable ride rather than a longer run, or you want to hit new PB’s on mid to short length runs, grab a pair of the Novablast 3 and bounce your way to the finish line.
