Crafted to provide maximum propulsion with minimum weight, the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 in Clay Ash is the most versatile shoe in the FuelCell line up, fast enough for up-tempo runs and cushioned and durable enough for daily milage.

The New Balance FuelCell Rebel v4 uses an updated, PEBA blend FuelCell midsole to provide lightweight responsiveness for a lively ride with no need for a plate. By widening the midsole platform, you get increase security in your stride.

By tuning the outsole thickness and placement, New Balance have managed to firm up the forefoot for a snappier toe-off sensation. Using Ndurance rubber, you get durable traction that can keep up with daily milage.

A lightweight, engineered upper uses FANTOMFIT for a tuned lockdown, with a gusseted tongue and no-sew overlays so you get a streamlined, and speedy ride from tempo runs to daily miles.

Regular Cushioning

Regular cushioning offers a blend of lightness, comfort, and ground feel. Popular for shorter distance racing as well as training and daily mileage running, the lower stack of midsole foam offers inherent stability and a lighter feel on your foot when compared to max-stack shoes.

Neutral

Neutral running shoes are designed to provide a smooth sensation without correcting your gait. They allow your natural motion to flow, while still offering a snug fit and a cushioned feel underfoot. As such, they’re ideal for runners who don’t overpronate.

A speed workouts best friend

I have not had this much fun in a pair of running shoes in a long time. Though you may see other uses for it, like walking or basic workouts, this shoe literally “comes alive” upon hitting a certain fast paces on your runs. When I’ve hit burst sprints, I am not sure if it’s in my head, but the fuel cell reacts to how much energy you are able/willing to put down on the ground, propelling you like a rocket. I love a lot of the carbon plated nb shoes, as well as the fresh foam, but there is something about this lightweight package and no carbon plate that makes it my go to short to mid range mile eater. Keep it up New Balance team!

I have big wide feet which requires extensive research before I buy any pair of shoes. I usually get 14 2E. With this pair, I was able to get the standard size and the fit has been great. The shoe feels light as well as springy compared to my usual pairs. I’ve been using them for my faster workout days on road and track. I’ve even considered wearing them for a 10k because of how well they feel but stuck with my usual racing pairs. Maybe in the future. The main hiccup for this shoe is that the heel is rough. The heel flap was digging into my Achilles almost immediately. Had to buy socks with heel flap cushions. Once I did that, everything has been good again.

Super light and comfy (casual runner)

I suffer from plantar fasciitis and over pronate but I casually run / jog for fitness. The FuelCell Rebel v4 assist in absorbing a lot of the impact from my achy joints and allows me to keep a slow running routine in my schedule. The shoes are super light and I appreciate the roomy toe box but I bought a pair half size up than my usual and i'm glad I did. I have to say that these shoes are more comfortable when running as opposed to using it for casual walking. I rotate the FuelCell Revel v4 with Fresh Foam X More trail shoes and i'm really interested in trying out the FC Elite Comp for its extra cushion and CF plate.

Ankle Blisters

These are my first dedicated running shoes. Did a bunch of research and as a bonus, these are my colors. They feel great underfoot. Bouncy and light. The part that is making me reconsider is that the back of my ankles are getting eaten up by these. Not sure if my skin just needs to toughen up or if blister tape is required, but the lack of padding on the back does not feel good. Do these need to break in before they give my ankles some reprieve? FWIW, I was professionally measured at Road Runner Sports and Sports Basement so it's not that I purchased the wrong size. I'm slightly disappointed, but going to give blister tape a shot. Hopefully things will get better as I really want to get into this sport.

Comfortable, light, and fast.

I'm not entirely sure why, nor could my podiatrist really pinpoint it, but I suffer from very bad foot pain and swelling whenever I up my mileage on paved surfaces. Orthotics helped some, but I'm finding out that nothing helps quite like an ultra-soft midsole. FuelCell is the midsole I needed. I don't know how they managed to make a shoe this light and comfortable at the same time. I know everyone's foot anatomy is a little different, but the insole contour of this shoe is just a perfect match for my foot, and it is just the right amount of supportive. If the comfort wasn't enough, I'm just plain faster in these. It's hard not to be, with how light they are. I'm going to run in Rebels as long as they are being made.

Next level comfort

Superb comfort. These are very lightweight and comfortable. I’m not a runner, but I walk a lot on the treadmill at the gym. I’m also a heavy guy at 259+. I was worried these would bottom out but they do not. The upper is very minimal and breathable. These feel so nice on my feet and absorb a lot of the pounding at pace. Can’t say enough good about these shoes. My feet are borderline wide so I got them true to my size (11 men’s) in wide. The fit is great. They feel bouncy like they almost encourage you to keep going. I plan on buying another pair in black for work.

My purchase experience was quite easy and delivery was timely. However, as someone that has had over 4 pairs of New Balance Rebels, I am very disappointed with this latest version. I was super excited for this shoe to come out, as I use this shoe as the basis for many comparison reviews for other sneakers. Even with the different versions, this shoe was always pretty consistently a great ride. This time around, I feel like New Balance got away from what made this a great sneaker. I wish there was something that could be done, but policy does not allow for returns.

Beware of sizing

I loved running in these, but even sizing a half size up which I usually do (and in a wide width) these shoes ran too small. I ended up injuring one of my toenails from repeated contact with the front of the shoe on a 12 mile run. Under foot these feel great, really responsive and lightweight. And despite that they otherwise felt good on short or long runs and when pushing tempo. But ultimately the sizing did not work out for me. I will say I have the Elite v4 (plated version of this shoe) which is just a touch larger and I do not have issues with that one.
