The brainchild of renowned designers Jarrett Reynolds and Michael Leon, Nike’s Tech Pack was first introduced in 2007 with the aim of fusing the brand’s latest innovations with some of their most iconic products.
That original launch included a no-sew version of the famous Windrunner jacket, alongside streamlined sweatshirts and tees made using various thermal bonding and ultrasonic techniques to minimise the presence of seams. It was the definition of sport fashion. Performance focused yet comfortable and stylish – exactly the kind of gear champion athletes would enjoy wearing in their downtime.
And enjoy it they did. So much so, that in 2013 Nike asked their stable of sponsored athletes to help create a new collection under the Nike Sportswear banner, this time zoning in on a single material: fleece. Showcased in its own range, Nike Tech Fleece utilised a clever three-layer construction to provide “warmth without weight”. Two layers of soft cotton jersey with a synthetic foam spacer in between. Simple but effective, sleek and snug, it quickly became a staple of the street, particularly in the UK, with prominent grime MCs adopting it as their go-to cool-weather gear.
These days, Tech Fleece is a global phenomenon, with every new release eagerly anticipated by pro athletes, celebrities, fashionistas, and anyone who appreciates its combination of lightweight warmth and next-level looks.
